3 Thing to know when buying a snowboard

In the beginning, when your first learning to snowboard you know it’ll be easier to rent your equipment until you know what kind of riding you’ll do.  Eventually though you will want to invest in your own equipment. It’s good to have a snowboard that fits you and the style of riding you will do.

It can be very over whelming when choosing a snowboard with all the many options you will have. You might want to narrow it down by deciding what you ultimately what you want to do with your snowboard, the type of terrain you’ll board on and how much you want to spend.

What Terrain will you be riding on
You want to be practical about the type of riding you want to do: terrain park, halfpipe, powder, groomers or a little bit of everything because most people spend much of their time at a resort boarding on firmer snow.

It’s typical of most riders to try different types of riding and terrains, so a good way to go is with a versatile all-mountain board rather than something specialized. Especially, if you are just getting into the sport and aren’t exactly sure what you’ll want to do.

How much to spend
Unlike some winter sports snowboarding is fairly low-cost. For good a snowboard, boots and bindings should cost you less than a $1000 and will last you many years of boarding. Now you can go and buy a top of the line board, but just know on the snow you would need to be an expert to tell the different between an expensive board and a less expensive one.

•  What Size to Buy

Length – is determined by your height and what type of riding you’ll do. If you have questions or concerns you might want to talk to a sales person.

Short Boards (Just between the bottom of your nose and your chin) are easier to handle in the pike and Park. These are better for recreational use, but not steady at higher speed and in deeper snow or packed snow and ice.

Taller Boards (From your nose to your eyes) have more speed, are steady and offer better backing than shorter boards.

Width – If you have a foot size larger than 10.5 you want to get a wider board. Your toes dragging can cause problems and slow you down.
