3 Non-Dangerous Guidelines and Behaviors for Ski and Snowboard Quests that Have Been Tested
Beginner skiers and snowboarders often don’t know enough about the dangers of their new sport. It can be too easy to get caught up in the fun of skiing down the slopes or riding a board. It’s critical to make the time to learn about the safety issues. By getting the proper training and working on your skills, you help ensure a safe day of skiing or snowboarding. Use the following tips for skiing and snowboarding to help you stay safe.
Using proven technology is a good way to add to the margin of safety. There is technology for both skiing and snowboarding. When it comes to advanced ski safety, the ski brake is a good choice to use on the mountain or trail. A ski brake is a device that attaches to your ski binding, and its purpose is to stop the ski in the event your binding releases. There is also the ski safety strap which be used in situations where weight is an issue. The safety strap is more appropriate in a situation where the ski could become permanently lost. If you decide to use a ski brake, be sure that it fits correctly for the width of your ski.
If you want to advance your skiing skills, then you’re going to need to master the short turns. A good way to improve short turn abilities is to do pivot slip drills. Facing downhill, rotate both your left to right by 180 degrees. This is known as the pivot slip turn drill. Practicing this drill on groomed snow will make it a bit easier. Proper pole planting will help with your overall rhythm and help you maintain a smooth flow. You can best learn how to properly execute this drill by signing up for a short instructional session with a professional ski instructor.
After that, it’s simply up to you to practice.
Pole planting is one of the most important tools available and yet is perhaps the most overlooked aspect. One reason it’s so important is its use for turning, and it is effective pole planting that allows us to time our turns better. Not only does it help you improve your turning ability and technique but proper pole placement can help you hold your balance better. The correct position for holding your poles is to have them in front of your body and up, and then your arms are positioned away from you body. Skiing and snowboard riding are dual edge swords that we seem to love. Tis the season to get to the slopes, we don’t want to miss it every fall. So get your gear in for a tune up and be ready to go. Take a friend with you plan before you go.
