What Types of Snowboarding Rails are Available and How do I Choose the Right One for Me
Snowboarding is an exhilarating and amazing experience. Once you master the basics, you might want to expand your experience by taking it up to the next level by learning how to maneuver snowboarding rails. Think you are ready? Let’s start by learning about the different types of snowboarding rails there are and how each of them differ.
The first type of snowboarding rail is a flat rail. Flat rails are a few inches wide and have a flat surface. Flat rails come in a variety of lengths. A short rail is typically six to eight feet long and is the ideal rail for a beginner, especially since they are only a couple of inches high. As you become more and more experienced, you can attempt rails a little higher off the ground until you have them mastered as well.
Another type of rail is a box rail. Box rails are wide, sometimes as wide as your snowboard. However, since there is a wider surface, there is more of an area that you could become injured on if you were to fall on it. Learn flat rails first and then advance to box rails.
Some of the advanced rails are curved, for example, some are arched, some shaped like a giant letter C and others have ups and downs like a roller coaster! These rails are definitely for the more accomplished snowboarder. They also come in various lengths, some can go on for 100 feet or more.
Where can you find rails? Most of your ski parks have a variety but if you want to hone your skills before going public, you can buy or build your own rails. Once you choose a design of the rail type and height you want to use, you can begin to build or purchase one to suit your needs. Keep your designs simple until you master the technique of riding it and once you get comfortable, expand what you can do on it before you move onto something different.
Snowboarding is an excellent way to develop balance and tone and can be a wonderful form of physical challenge. You can continue to develop your skills and become more and more creative with what you master. Challenge yourself to learn and progress so that you can show off your skills!
